Jiayong Zhao and her paintings

赵嘉雍是我几年前在网上认识的。记得她在一个绘画群里发了几张画，当时我偶然看到，就觉得有种专业画家没有的稚拙气息。后来才知道她已年近古稀。

Jiayong Zhao was a net friend I met several years ago. I remember she sent a few paintings in a painting group and I chanced to see them in which I felt a childlike temperament that professional painters lack. Only later did I know that she was nearly seventy years old.

后来我们熟悉了，我才了解她从小喜欢画画，但真正拿起画笔，还是退休后不再带孙子的时候，想实现童年的梦想，做一个像摩西太太那样的快乐自在的画者 。

When we became familiar with each other later, I realized that she liked painting since she was a child, but it was not until she finished helping the two daughters with bringing up their kids that she managed to pick up the paintbrush. She wants to make the dream in childhood come true, to be a happy painter as Mrs. Moses.

她的画，意趣盎然，天真稚拙。造型古朴，色彩独特，生活气息浓厚，有自己识别度很高的绘画语言。整体的造型与肯定的用线，将东方古典趣味和现代表现性元素有机地结合起来。丰富的人生阅历在画面中体现得执着朴素而又坚实饱满。

Full of interest and naivety, her paintings are simple in shape, unique in color, thick in life flavour, and highly recognizable in painting language. The overall composition and definite use of lines organically combine the oriental classical taste and modern expressive elements. Her rich life experience embodies persistence,  simple, solidity, and richness in the paintings.

她是勤奋的画者，既不断学习前辈的经验，也注重挖掘自己的内在潜能。能从个人经历与生活环境中生发出源源不断的题材。她想象丰富，思维跳跃，而又下笔真诚，有强烈的感情和持久的表达力。

As a diligent painter, she not only learns from the predecesssors' experience, but also devotes herself to tapping her own potential. That she can generate a steady stream of themes from her personal experience and living environment owes to her rich imagination, leaping thinking, sincere painting, strong feelings and lasting expression. 

赵嘉雍虽然年过古稀，但我觉得她还有无穷的潜力。正如她想成为一个“没有受过专业训练的全职画者”那样，她不但画得多，且每一张都倾注了全副热诚。她不自觉地坚守了童心，也自然地拥有了自己独特的语言。

Although Mrs. Zhao is over the age of 70, I think she still has infinite potential. She not only paints a lot, but also devotes herself to each one as she wants to be a "full-time painter without professional training". She unconsciously sticks to her naivety and naturally has her own unique language.

在我看来，她已经是一个素人画者中很有成就的优秀画家。

From my point of view, she is already an outstanding artist with great achievements among amateur painters.

Painting the Arcadia in my heart- Jiayong Zhao

我生在重庆，从小就热爱文学，美术，从小学至初中，课本上都是我涂抹的痕迹，那时的梦想就是长大做个文学家或画家。可惜命运弄人，由于历史原因，我十五岁读完初二便被迫缀学，从此无缘文学艺术梦想。就业后做了40年会计，退休后又为两个女儿把孙子带大。七十岁才有了自由的空间和时间。

II was born in Qongqing, and I have loved literature and art since I was a child. I drew and painted on my textbooks at my school time from elementary to middle school when I dreamed to be a writer or an artist. Unfortunately, due to historical reasons, I was forced to drop out at the age of 15 after finishing the second year of middle school. Since then, I have missed my dream of literature and art. I had been working as an accountant for 40 years after education, and then helped my two daughters with bringing up their sons after retirement . It was not until at the age of 70 that I had my free space and time.

记得摩西奶奶有一句话“真的想做一些事，任何时候都不晚”。是的，我很庆幸自己在七十岁重新找回了自己喜欢的事情，又幸运的遇到了艺术博士张华洁老师，进入他创立的新绘画新思维网络高研班，正式学习绘画。五年的时间里，我学会了调色、构图，提高了艺术修养，也不断探索自己的绘画方向。如果我的绘画作品能以趣味的形式和内涵让人在精神上产生愉悦，那便是我欣喜的收获!

As the saying from Grandma Moses goes "It's never too late to start anything you like", I am very glad that I managed to return to my hobby at the age of 70, and was lucky enough to meet Huajie Zhang, a Doctor of Art, to enter New Painting New Thinking ( an advanced art training class online) founded by him, and from then on I formally started learning painting. In the past 5 years, I have learned color-mixing and compositions, improved my artistic accomplishment, and constantly explored my own painting direction. If my paintings could make people mentally happy with their interesting forms and connotations, that would be my refreshing harvest!

我非常珍惜晚年时光，可以在绘画和艺术实践中快乐地度过每一天，所以我的作品是欢乐的，俏皮的，还有些象征性和怀旧的情绪。我画心中所思所想，画里有我对生活的意趣，也有我对余生的希望。

I cherish my later years very much, and spend every day happily in painting and artistic practice, so my works are joyful, playful, symbolic and nostalgic. What I paint shows my thoughts in mind,  interest in life and my hope for the rest of life.

Jiayong Zhao

was born on May 16th, 1946, started working as an accountant in 1961, retired in 2001, and has been painting since 2016.
